The panel included Tiina Kinnunen, professor of history at the University of Jyväskylä and historian Leane Morits. The writer Jenni Haukio, the wife of the President of Finland, sent her written greetings to the book launch.
“Finland and Estonia are so close that sometimes we think we know each other better than we really do. That’s why we need people who have committed their work to the lives and interactions of Estonians and Finns, and to opening people’s eyes to the fact that we know each other better than we know ourselves,” Haukio wrote. “Imbi Paju’s image of women’s participation in national defense gives readers a new perspective on the situation of the two countries on the eve of a great war.”
